Carnton Plantation, Franklin – It was a long time coming. The Franklin Farriers beat the visiting Phoenix of East Nashville 8-10 in the inaugural contest of the 2017 season. In the league’s 5 seasons, it was the 4th time the Farriers have won on opening day.
After a shaky 1st inning where the Phoenix plated 5 runs, the Farriers answered with 4 of their own. In true Farriers-Phoenix fashion, the game was kept close with a few lead changes before the Farriers took the lead for good with a 4-run 4th inning, their 2nd 4-run frame of the game.
The Farriers scored 10 runs on 29 hits in only 44 at-bats – a .644 team batting average. All 14 ballists got a hit, with 6 extra-base hits. Nine different ballists scored.
